Strode College - class of '87-'89

Updated (HEY, STAY ON THE CHAIR!) 31st October 2001

Just before I left the wonderous place that is Strode College, I rented a video camera and ran around like a nutter filming people. Later on I digitised people I knew and then forgot about it totally, until I just found all the pictures hidden away on my hard disk. In the vain hope that someone, someday, from college will do a search and find this page, I decided to put them up for anyone to see - and here they are, with strange comments.

For those people who have no idea what I'm on about, Strode College is a tertiary college in Street, Somerset, which (at least when I was there) did things like A-levels, BTECs and vocational courses (like hairdressing, as we all used to note...). With Glastonbury being in the catchment area, lots of strange people went there, with names like 'Jupiter' (no joke). It was (and probably still is) a great place to spend a couple of years, and was famous for its discos, and the ensuing aftermath of coupled bodies in the reception area the day after as newly-formed relationships took shape. Supposedly they've stopped that sort of thing now by putting seats in the foyer.

Notable people who weren't around to get pictured at the time include Anne Coward and Helen Cudlipp (Hi Helen - mail me... actually, she just has 25/3/99... see the end of the page for the update!) Jane Holmes (great friend of Kate, and basically everyone else too) should really be mentioned - she lives in Leicester now.

I'm sure there are more I should mention, but my mind is like a sieve currently...

Recent updates

November 96

Wilf has mailed me some additional comments for some of the pictures - and there's now a link to his email address.

January 97

Kate has mailed me some more descriptions and comments - her email address is down there too.

February 97

Andy Green (wahey!) mailed me out of the blue. Currently just finishing his PhD at Hull, and starting a post-doc position at the Uni of Leicester. He just sent me a picture of himself, so brace yourself...

Arrrrgh! Hide now!

Now, that wasn't too bad, was it girls & boys? :-)

March 97

John Groom, using a search key of 'Quantity Surveyor', and 'Dance-ercise', found this page, and mailed me (again). His email address for the next... well, it's probably out of date now, but it's down below here anyway.

April 97

I found a picture from a pub outing with some college people in it: from the left - Anne Coward, Nick Coombes, John Groom, Sophie Thurgood, and Lisa Hoskins. Me? I'm taking the picture, so you don't get to see my ugly mug :-)

July 97

Sue Kenniston found the page. I'm waiting for her to mail me back with full, and explicit, details of her life so far. Until then, I can merely assure you that she still exists. :-)

Katrina mailed me with more info on various people, including herself... Mark's now a 'house husband' (!! No, I don't believe it either :-) ) - he just has to look after Katrina and renovate the house (sounds like a proper job to me...). He's allegedly a lot wider now, and she's a qualified management accountant and the Finance manager for planning at the Burton group. Sounds like she's got her life well sorted, to be honest. Whatever happened to trying to stay a student for all your life like Wilf? :-)

August 97

Sue mailed me back with more gossip (see below), and more about her:

Me - well [I] repeated my final year at Strode then jetted off to Cardiff University to study Psychology and Physiology. Lived round the corner from Ceri and bumped into Kate a couple of times. Ran out of money so came home. That's it really. Nothing hugely exciting. Temp'ed in Clarks for four weeks and I'm still here 3 years later. Now I am an assistant buyer for Men's shoes and a total shoe bore.

Qualified as a Reflexologist as well but I think that's because I lived in Glastonbury for a year. That hippy stuff tends to rub off after a while.

I drive a 1969 MG Midget which I love to pieces - my noddy car as it's known and I'm young(ish), free and single. Just thought I'd pop that bit in incase the man of my dreams finds the page.

Separately, some shameless self-promotion (ok, the 'about me...' page) can be found here.

Lisa got married! Yes, and I found out in the local paper: here's the picture and text - sorry about the quality of the picture, but it's a local paper - need I say more? :-) (I can't be rude anyway, as there's a Frampton working there).

November 97

Will Clark ( will@fukd.demon.co.uk) mailed me with possibly incriminating information about 'The Goat Gang'. You'll just have to read it :-)

I also got another mail from Andy (who, by the way, has a spanking new homepage at http://www.wassail.mcmail.com, who'd been emailed by Spike (unfortunately, not from Spike's own email address, so I can't give you his address) - he's doing hush hush work for the MOD it appears (see his picture for more misinformation!).

February 99

Marcus Knight (marcuspaulknight@mpk12970.freeserve.co.uk ...bloody hell, that's an email address and a half...) just mailed me: I have dim and distant memories of a Marcus, but my memory is worse now than it ever was (too much music has pushed more important stuff out: however, I can remember almost all the lyrics to anything I've ever heard. Useful, eh?).

Anyway, Marcus mailed me some updates...

I used to go around with Marcus Corrie(Somerton into Electronics and astronomy), Mike Pickrell ( the quaker from Shepton Mallet, he had a sister called Valerie who was in the year above us) and David Yerbury (the bod who you call Dave the rave on your web page). David went to Swansea University to do civil engineering, Mike to York University (Chemistry) and Marcus Corrie went to Leicester to do Astonomy with Physics.

As for me I went to Loughborough University and obtained a degree in Chemistry. I am now happily living in Bristol!

I now work for MAFF of BSE fame. Whilst I was competing in a civil service cross country event I met up with Alison Malcom. She is apparently working for the MET office in Uxbridge and running 10K races (as I am!).

He's promised a picture (which means I'll probably go "Oh, *that* Marcus!") when he gets a scanner. Stay tuned...

March 99

Helen Cudlipp found the page and told me she doesn't live in any deeply forested areas - the full update is at the bottom. She's heard rumours of a reunion (I'm guessing the 10th: my maths A level stretches about that far) this year - when I get some more details I'll put info up, but I'm guessing it'll be the usual drunken debauchery (ok, I can but hope: the drunken is a cert, though) in the Street Inn. Let's hope it's in the summer ;)

April 99

Wilf let slip in an email that he's now engaged to Becky (a - not the Becky in this page, and b - I hope this is the right name, I'm guessing - I can't remember names - otherwise this paragraph will be rather embarassing). Not heard any details on when the actual "hitching" process is likely to happen, but as it was about 8 years before they even got engaged, I doubt they'll be rushing into anything :)

Peter Fry, Alex's dad, mailed me with Alex's new email address. I don't know, Alex works at a web design company and doesn't even read webpages :)

May 99

Sue Kenniston felt it was about time to enlighten me: she's dumped the MG and got a Golf GTI, bought a house in Street (actually, right next to the college... remember the road that went out to the moors? Well, there's an estate there now where the old factory was) and keeps a "young man" locked away in it.

Sue is still recovering from having her sandal range torn to pieces in a fateful meeting on the 11th May 1999.

October 99

David Yerbury found the page sometime this month. He now lives in Bradley Stoke, but didn't tell me anything else about his life - maybe they're very secretive in Bradley Stoke.

November 99

Nick Foster mailed - who is *currently* at strode (see - it hasn't burnt down yet). It's good to hear that the parties still havn't changed, but they're now at OSCARS (isn't that at Longleat? What a strange place for a nightclub - I mean, you could get mauled by a lion on the way home). And... he's only 16 so I guess he was *born* in 1983. Doesn't that make you feel old?

March 2000

Everett Hoskins found the page. Ok, I suspect the reason I didn't remember him was because he went to strode in 1967-68. Ok, he tried to weasel out of the fact by saying he definitely remembers it as Strood college, but we know that's just what scrumpy does to you after 20 years. Anyway, Clarks (shoes) insisted he went there until he got an HNC in Business Studies. It appears that he fled the country at some point since 1968, and now lives in Austin, Texas.

Alex Fry emailed me, telling me he's now married to Debi (who works with him at JKD in London). He sounds very busy :)

May 2000

Mark Duffield (though you might know him as Mark Hamer - he's since taken his stepfather's surname) mailed:

I went up to Lancashire Polytechnic (now the University of Central Lancashire, imaginatively titled don't you think?) in Preston, whereupon I met Mike Wigglesworth on the first night in the SU. A year later Mark Hardyman surfaced there. Another year later and Amanda Evans turned up (don't know if you'll remember her. I stayed in Preston until '95 then returned back to sunny Shepton Mallet, worked in the licensed trade until about 3 months ago when I started working for UKOnline, the Shepton based ISP, www.ukonline.co.uk part of the Easynet Group.

People recently seen include Emma Manley 4 days ago in Maxime's nightclub in Street (did I really just admit that?), she is now a teacher in the Portsmouth area. I often bump into Rob Kearle, not that you could miss him, I beleive he works for Serious Structures, but I may be wrong. He is regularly seen in shepton though. Mike Wigglesworth is back in Somerset again, saw him a couple of years ago, can't remember what he's up to though. Occasionally Spike surfaces but you've heard from him. As for any others I haven't got a clue.

June 2000

Martin White, an OND student at Strode from 1988-90, mailed from the US (of A?) giving some info on the mysterious "Techno Hippy". Anyway, a bit of his email:

Me? (Deep breath....) I did an OND there as well between 88-90, then an HND at Swindon, where I then went on to work for Courtaulds. I then got a job in Bedfordshire travelling the world as a commissioning engineer, then a policeman, now I'm living in the US as a programmer in Visual Basic. I've now been married for 4 years and we're expecting our first baby in December.

Recognised a few faces even after all these years. Alex Fry and Marcus Warner were with me in the Strode College cricket team which won the area cup in 1989 under Graham Bailey (?)

A guy in my group had a tremendous crush on Sandra Withers - didn't everyone with those never ending legs? Anthony Stag was a mad ex-boyfriend of a friend of mine who joined Strode in 1989 - Di Bell.

August 2000

Mark and Vicky (no, I'm none the wiser either... Mark & Vicky Sorrill maybe?) mailed me:

Who are you,

and what are you like, I recognised some of the faces must have been my era but I did not warrant a mention. Ah life as a nobody!!!

P.S. that Axbridge girl is my stepsister. P.S. My wife was a Strodie too.

So, there you are. All very incestuous.

September 2000

Paul Hilton who was at Strode from 86-89 but managed to avoid me on the fateful day in question has emailed me with some great updates! Here's the note:

I was at Strode 86 - 89 and loved it. I recognised a lot of faces from the gallery although I was disappointed not to see my mug amongst the piccies. But hey...

I had a sister Nikki as well. I live in Bristol with Alison Sully - formally of Strode and Crispin. I'm working for Sustrans and Ali helps to run the Bath Festivals.

Ex Strode character Julian Dean (formally of Reef) is the lead guitarist in Toploader. Tom Wheldon - he had a short lived Strode life (87), then became a successful ecstacy dealer until arrest in Holland. He got 4 years.

See? Strode really sets you up in life ;)

Vicky Sorrill (yes, it was Sorrill - maiden name Vicky Drake... which sounds strangely familiar) mailed to say that they're currently living in Grand Cayman in the British West Indies with their 2 year old son and more offspring due January 2001 (I'm jealous. It's cold here!). Her sister Lizzy Drake, was another strodie. Mark's step sister, Julia Keen (who works for british gas in Southampton) married another Mark - I'm assuming one of them went to strode, otherwise they're damn imposters being mentioned here :)

Martin White (yes,  him again) has moved back to the UK (and has a new email address – click on his name) in preparation for the aforementioned baby. Good job, otherwise it might end up being called “Chet” or “Duane” and, later in life, get into Country & Western music.

Far better it gets born here and likes Atomic Kitten, obviously.

October 2000 (but I only got round to writing this bit in October 2001. I’ve heard of deadlines, you know)

Aaron Miller mailed… he was at strode 86-88, then followed it up with Warwick university (an excellent choice; obviously, I would say that as I went there too) and now works for Codemasters. He says:

You may remember my sister Becky Miller - (or Maud)

She went to chichester college and did some kind of teaching degree has lived in Amsterdam for a few years and she currently lives in Portugal with her dog Spanner.

November 2000 (busy month!)

Mark Duffield bumped into Will Clark at the Pilton Party… he seems to remember that Will is working for a media company doing something from the BBC. Mark apologises for being vague, but the contents of his bloodstream at the time prevented any more detail. He also says that Will’s ex, Yvonne McQuillan is still in Bolton; her sister Mary moved back to Shepton with her husband and now does artwork for childrens’ books.

I don't know if you can remember Ben Knight - he wore jamjar glasses and Iron Maiden t-shirts and was one of the driving forces behind the infamous Strode College supergroup that was The Far Canal. He apparently is now a top chef in the big smoke and doing very well thankyou.

Emma Snelling mailed, which was nice. Obviously due to the doll incident, she now lives just outside Plymouth with her boyfriend John who she met at Exeter university – where she did a psychology degree. For some unknown reason, she went to Maximes in Street which is no longer the run-down cinema we all used to know, love and occasionally exchange bodily fluids in (no names); it’s now a nightclub where much the same stuff happens, but without film being involved.

She’s lost contact with Lisa Clark (where are you Lisa?)… but knows she’s in France somewhere.

Mike Clarke sent a great stream-of-consciousness email which I won’t even try to edit:

I am the very Glastonbury type (name of Mike Clarke), not scary enough to be a nutter, sadly no inheritance, frightened of technology so guided to your site by kind ex-goat friend.

Yes, they were the days of Goat-gang antics, Gareth's (apparently now 'Gary', he's from Evercreech don't you know) bell-shaped haircut...

Everyone was in a band: Smudge in the Radback Renegades (great gig in the Assembly Rooms); Matt Jackson, Deano (now in Toploader) and Paul Winterheart (ex-Kula Shaker, now drummer in some other band) in one of the oddest theatrical Krishna rock combos ever, name of TOXIC; and of course, Reef, featuring Kenwyn on guitar and everyone else from Strode in there somewhere.

Tim Qualtrough (see Paul's suggestion for name of shady figure in photo, but wrong - it is not Tim, and it's pronounced 'Crowlegs', not Quatro) is still in a band, I think still with Rob 'Rogue Trooper' Parker and Steve 'Not >From The Sex Pistols' Cook, although now possibly called Turbo Cod (the days of Persona Non Grata are long gone).

P.S. I don't miss college, but then nostalgia is not what it used to be.

January 2001

Nathan Horrocks (self-proclaimed “ex-Strode layabout”) sent a very short email: “Wow, that’s pretty scary stuff”. Eeeeeexactly.

February 2001

Tim Qualtrough of the non-deterministic name sent me, well, a slice of his brain/life/hopes/dreams (please delete as appropriate):

hello. I am the real tim qualtrough and I heartily resent being confused with Tim Tilliard, who is funny. I am a gay man in London and being gay is really good especially if you are gay. So come and fight me because I'll batter your thothige. Charlotte Clements is with me who was the most beautiful lady ay college, even though she thought she was. We live near each other and will marry soon, and I will buy her a speeedboat, then take it away. Chatrloppre meakes mental childs happy because they think she's funny. I make myself happy because its all I know. I hate ther Groucho and I mnake ace videos of myself on my own in the dark. Tim Qualtrough and Charlotte Clemency.

Kids; don’t do drugs. This sort of shit happens ;)

March 2001

Nathan Horrocks (self-proclaimed “ex-Strode layabout”) sent a very short email: “Wow, that’s pretty scary stuff”. Eeeeeexactly.

May 2001

Ceri Jones (i.e. Ceri Stitfall but with a husband. I can almost hear the sound of people becoming monks) informs me that Sandra Withers’ legs are still long, has a baby daughter Lauren (hopefully not subject to miseduation like Miss Hill) and is still in Exeter. Also…

Louise Cleary...bloody lovely! Sport billy at college, lusted after by many a young chap, spent time with "Newty"(Ant Hughes), doing remarkably well in Surveying in London, still as beautiful as ever, but has been dating the "football God", Paul for over 10 years now!! (bad luck lads!).

Sadie King...another of the "Strode sport billies", now spends much of her time running in Scottish mountains or the Prague marathon, trekking through South America and Canadian mountains...in between work assignments as a Civil Engineer, of course.

She is presently Inter-railing through Europe...I did that with her in 1989!!!

Lisa Andrews...is now called Lisa Dadds, has 2 absolutely beautiful daughters (Milly and Jess) and lives across the bay from me at W-S-M (which, contrary to popular belief, is really not that bad...out of season, of course!). She recently hit 30 in style...a weekend in Paris (sans les enfants!).

Kathryn van der Meulen....sorry, but she will always be "Florrie" to me! After a reasonable stab at London life, settled for a period in Shropshire, now down here near Bristol...shortly to become another Jones...or will she keep that fine surname?!

Lots of other news on some of the older boys from our era at college...Mike "Stiffy" Stitfall, Sam Gouldby, Tim "Lego" Lacey, Nick "Harry" Hawkins, Alex "God" Baker, to name but a few....I'll save that for another day!!

As for me (Ceri!), married myself a gorgeous basketball player, (well I am 5 ft 10", aren't I?!), teaching French and German to little Somerset Darlings and generally very pleased with my lot!

Sadie? Woo. I’d forgotten about Sadie; she used to live next-door to my friend Kevin in Petvin close… there was this one time (something like 1985?) I hacked a travel agents’ login on prestel and booked her an ambassador class flight to New York on TWA with a fake credit card number – for a laugh. I wonder if she still remembers that? Oh, misspent youth… I blame it on the Hecks cider.

July 2001

John Groom has got a new oh-so-egotisitical email address (I mean, johngroom.co.uk?). He’s living in New York and (remember, I’m writing this in October 2001) thankfully wasn’t near any tall buildings on the 11th September.

September 2001

Rachael Webb is still very good friends with Charlotte, Tim and Mike… and, for those of you who didn’t quite get your head around Tim’s last email, here’s a version for the less chemically-adjusted of you:

Mike is married to the lovely Emma and lives near Radstock, Charlotte works with autistic children in London and lives in Highbury, Tim directs and edits TV shows and pop videos very successfully in London and all round the world and I make political documentaries for Channel 4 and work on Have I Got News for you.

I loved my time at Strode and look back at those days though rose tinted specs.

October 2001

Ben Knight found us (probably by following the smell) and is, as Mark Duffield said, a “top chef”. Having dropped out of Chester College after 2 years of psychology & biology (isn’t that called “living in halls”? ;) ) he now carves (pun possibly intended) out a career in four star hotels and Michelin starred restaurants, at one point having been employed by the Duke of Westminster.

As he points out, this is all the more surprising as he used to be a scruffy bastard, but “GODAMMIT I’M AN ARTIST”. He’s in Chester, and has some very interesting photos that people might be interested in, but doesn’t say what they’re of. Frightening.

January 2002

Take it away, Rupert Mills

Hello,

I am Rupert 'Whoopert' Mills and wish to completely disassociate myself with Will Clark and his bumbling baffoonery. May I also take this opportunity to clear up a couple of little details that have been obscured by cider-drinking,ferret-farming,chutney-smoking shenanigans.

a) Matt Jackson did indeed join the Krishna's but he was introduced to them by myself (sorry about the matt), and along with Paul Winterheart, lived in London and was distributing books, driving round in a van, spreading the word.....that kinda thing. Last time I saw him, he was hosting the MOTHER of all parties in Baltonsborough and seemed very happy and no longer a Krishna.

b) the other 'hazy' detail, posted by someone who has definately been eating too many pies, was of Tom Weldon. Tom did indeed go to prison but it was for 2 years and he is now working as an artist for a web design company and doing very well.

Unlike you good people, I retch up hairballs at the very mention of Strode College and am now living in Brighton and working for a Computer Games company, aptly called Climax Studios.

April 2003

(though I only posted this almost 3 years later. I'm using forgetting my webspace password as the excuse here, but if "being abducted by aliens" is more convincing, then I'll go with that too)

Vicky Sorrill emailed me:

Just to up date you .... we are both still living happily in the Cayman Islands, we now have two chillies, both boys, 5 and 2. Life is pretty bloody good most of the time, if not a little hot - spend most of our summer back in good ole Somerset visiting relatives. My sister Lizzy Drake has been living with Matt Mckay for years now and they have just had their first baby girl! I don't really remember you from Stodie days but your picture looks familar! I use to hang out with Nick, Tim Lacey etc and also John Dean and that crowd - spent most Saturday nights at the Red Lion in Somerton. What has become of all these guys that I mentioned - I know that Nadine Gardner is married to an Italian who owns his own restuarant on the Pultney Bridge in Bath and has a baby girl.

Well that is all I am off to enjoy the sunset with a cocktail in hand - (i wish).

Cheers

Vicky

Wow. The Red Lion. That brings back memories, mostly of lurking around the corner from it trying to down scrumpy as fast as possible before entering its alcohol-free interior. Oh, and failing to pull on many, many occasions. I'm really not bitter, oh no.

This page is dedicated to the memory of Martyn Broughton, a good friend and student at Strode who died in a car crash in August 1989. Courtesy of Andy, here's a picture of Martyn next to his beloved Morris Traveller, which died with him (and hopefully they're both still together!).

Martyn Broughton

Martin Broughton

Hugo Fiennes, August 1997.

It's that Alison Malcom woman embarassed at being the wrong side of the lens. Last I heard from her was she was doing something heavily academic.

"Looks like Steve Baker to me" (Wilf)

"Yep, it's Steve Baker alright" (Andy)

Friend of woman who went out with Wilf. From Axbridge (I think). "Claire" (Wilf)

Wilf's ex, and the nutter from Axbridge. Come to think of it, they were both from Axbridge, and none the more normal for it. Hmmm.

"Can't remember (her name), which is worrying as I remember her friend's name..." (Wilf)

"Her name is Julia" (Andy)

That brilliant student band, the Radback Renegades. Didn't last long, but suprisingly good for a Strode College band...

No idea, except he was a computer bod. Probably the most likely person appearing here to ever see these pages, though.

"Dave the rave - very quiet chap" (Wilf)

"David Yerbury - went to Swansea university to do Civil Engineering" (Marcus)

A complete nutter. Mark someone? Inherited a huge pile of money from a rich grandmother. Tall. Very Glastonbury.

This is Sab Clarke's brother Mike, who is far from a complete nutter and lives in Radstock (No, he *must* be a nutter - he lives in radstock! - ed) with his beautiful wife Emma. His other brother Saffron (yes - I know) who didn't spend long at Strode - long enough to wind up a lot of people - ask around, is now a successful fashion designer in Australia (Paul)

Kerri. Drop dead gorgeous (and friendly with it) - the dream of many a Strode College man :-)

"Ceri Stitfall (that is the correct spelling!) is still gorgeous and extremely lovely. She was at Cardiff doing teacher training and is now teaching in Guildford or near there and lives around the corner from my brother Alex." (Kate)

Staggy (not sure if the spelling is right, I never had to write it). Joined the Navy or something, lived in Cossington and had an accident with a motorbike when he was but small. That's all I can remember....

"He's in the Navy and I think still based at Yeovilton but he's not there much" (Helen)

"Anthony Stag" (Wilf)

"Ran into him a few years ago in Plymouth. Still the same!" (Sue)

One of the Frampton twins. Mad: pictured here just after speaking the classic line 'Coco pops: so choclatey they even turn your vomit brown' (with cocopops in hand).

"The first Frampton is Emma who is now a journalist for the Central Somerset Gazette" (Kate)

Not sure.

"Bloke who snogged Emma while I was in Portugal..." (Wilf)

"Mark somebody" (Kate)

"Mark Hamer's the name" (Andy) (got there in the end, I suppose :-) )

Mark mailed me in May 2000, so scroll back up to find out what he's upto now...

The other Frampton. I think I met this one in the Tesco in Wells a few months ago... or it might have been the cocopops one. Hello!

"Marianne Framton - married Doug Smith 18 months ago - they were sweethearts from about 3rd year at school. I went to the wedding - a lovely affair!" (Kate)

John Groom. He's in Brum (at the moment), but moving upmarket to a flash bit of London soon. Pictured here as the DJ from Bomb the Bass, John went on to a glittering career in Client/Server computing, and is steadily getting very rich indeed. He tends to move email accounts every 5 minutes, but at the moment you can get hold of him at mailto:john@johngroom.co.uk

Sue Kenniston. Born not only on the same date as me (31/3/71) but in the same hospital too (Butleigh). Never heard from again... where are you Sue?

Ok, July 97 she's found me... Sue's working at Clarks at the moment, not wanting to fly in the face of convention - anyone who lives in street works for Clarks, period :-)

Sue pouting :-)

Becky someone, from Glastonbury. I saw her completely by accident just as she was about to get married (getting into the car, actually, so I'm assuming she did get married).

"Becky Nurse (nee Callaghan) obviously got married, to Rob whom she started seeing at college. She now works at Natwest in Street. No children as far as I know." (Sue)

Errrr....

Friend of the errrrr.... above.

"Techno Hippy (it was on the back of his jacket)" (Andy)

"Tim someone. His surname is a bit strange and begins with T, and he went to Huish Episcopi School where I'm sure his mum was a teacher. He and Errrr (see above) were both engineers (say no more!)" (Katrina)

The picture of the Techno Hippy is that of Tim Tilliard. Tim had a sister called Alison (who went to Strode as well, I think). Tim was in the BTEC OND Electrical/Electronic year above me. I think there were 3 people in that class! There were 6 in mine! (Martin White)

Conflicting stories now! here's Paul's take on the pic: This was Tim Qualtrough (pronounced Quatro) who's now a media tart living London (where else). His name often appears on the bottom of channel 4 documentaries with on - line editor attached to it). Hangs around the Groucho Club a fair bit.

"The wierd hippy geezer is my old mate Mike Clarke, brother of Sab and Saffron, who was part of the legendary situationist party frenzier-upperers, The Goat Gang." (Will)

Jenny Cawthorne (another ex-Wilf :-) ). Lovely but scatty as hell! Last I heard she'd grown up a bit - hopefully not too much...

"Rides motorbikes (has a full license) and is trying to become a chartered accountant! (saw her with her boyfriend a few months ago in the Bear in Street, quite by accident)" (Wilf)

"Jenny is training to be a MANAGEMENT accountant not chartered (subtle difference but very key in accounting circles!). She lives in Oxford, is once again young free & single and has a passion for motorbikes" (Katrina)

"Kathryn (used to go out with Steve Baker)" (Kate)

"Kathryn van Der Meulen" (Andy)

Sarah Clarke - Jenny's best friend. In this video, a gibbering wreck who couldn't keep a straight face at any time. Held a wonderful party at which almost everyone (except me & Andy Green) got thrown out and had to explain to the police (who the neighbours had helpfully called) that the party was going to let them back in at any moment.

Jenny & Sarah.

Emma Snelling and friend. Hi Emma - sorry I was such a tosser when I was 16ish. Mail me (update: she did… see, this web thing works)

"The friend looks like my cousin, Lisa Clark, who now lives and works in France" (Sue) - [I think it is, Lisa never left Emma's side except for that one time she bought in an inflatable, erm, sex doll, and everyone raised their eyebrows quite a long way]

Emma posing outside the 'coffee area'.

Karl Benniworth, later Karl Pople (his mother's maiden name). I think he did a PhD somewhere, and lived as near as you could get to the college - so near he saw our old maths room burning down one night and called the firemen...

"Karl - got a job up country somewhere for the MOD but got bored and now works in London. He travels back quite regularly as I think he's seeing a local girl." (Sue)

The infamous Wilf, leaving behind a trail of women :-) (not anymore, I hope: he's now engaged to his long-time gf whose name escapes me - which isn't hard, as remembering names has *never* been my strong point. Even for 5 seconds. Becky sounds familiar though...)

Now Dr. Graeme Wilford, and not into wearing Sister of Mercy T-shirts. If you use linux, you probably use his manual program...

You can email Wilf at G.Wilford@ee.surrey.ac.uk

Kate Baker, grinning like a nutter, as usual. One of the few I still talk to on a regular basis! She's now doing medicine at Cardiff. Hopes to be a clinical geneticist.

Emma Manley, from Glastonbury. Hmm, it's another ex-Wilf woman... come to think of it, there do appear to be a lot of them on this page...

It's Sparky (the white one) and Edgar (the dark one), our first two cats, now both gone unfortunately.

And again...

Ahhh, my Honda CRX, in shiny black.

It's C781 FMD (Fairly Mad Driver) again.

Sophie Thurgood. Has a very high pitched voice, and still isn't serious.

Bob. Big and hairy.

"Rob Kearl" (Wilf)

"Living and working as a grave digger in Somerset" (Andy)

It's Adam Cole (not sure about the surname). Into X1/9's (had two at one time as I remember). Became an architect in Scotland, I think. Mad, but a brillant bloke who just got more sophisticated :-) Went out with Charlie (a female Charlie, incase you were wondering). Firmly believed that all engineers shag sheep.

"Was an architect in Sheffield, and now lives in London" (Andy)

Mark Nurse - amazing hair, spiked courtesy of Camay soap (!)

"Mike Wigglesworth" (Wilf)

"Went out with Marianne Frampton before she was whisked off her feet by Doug" (Kate)

"Went out with Imy Llewellyn" (Katrina)

Went out with the woman below. I can't remember either of their names at the moment!

"Greg... possibly" (Wilf)

"His name is Brendon Palmer and I believe is a sports teacher somewhere. I met him last year at a Shepton Mallet Scouts reunion. He is still very tall but time has not been too generous to his hair!" (Spike)

Woman! Tall. Fond of wearing unfeasibly tight jeans. Went to Exeter university and lived next-door to Wilf. Nice.

"Sandra Withers" (Wilf - who ought to know really... :-) )

"Is teaching in Exeter and recently tried out for the England netball team. Don't know what happened though." (Sue)

"Rebecca Prettijohn and someone else" (Kate)

"...Marcus Warner" (Andy)

Tim Kerly (Tim Kerley?). Strange at the best of times, he, errr, enjoyed the Acid House scene when it arrived: in fact, he didn't come down for several years. Last seen wearing a suit.

John Clark told me that Tim wasn't overly happy with this description... so Tim, mail me and I'll update the page with what *really* happened since college!

The back of Sharen Griffiths (note, it's SharEN, not SharON) I had a huge crush on her for most of my first year at college, but it wasn't to be. Last heard of, she was engaged to Kevin, giving the classic couple of Shar(o)n & Kevin, and worked at Clarks.

"Married Kevin a couple of years ago. Still works for Clarks" (Sue)

(sob) (sob) Ah well, I think I've got over it now :-)

Lisa Hoskins - now a primary school teacher. Always eminently sensible and always smiling. Behind her is Anne, who I don't appear to have a picture of, although I do remember digitising one. I went out with Anne for more than 5 years. Hi Anne!

Lisa got married in August'97 - see here!

Me, when I was at college. Spikey hair and a shirt, whatever next :-)

If you're interested in me (which of course, you should be...) you can find more about me here.

James Turner. Tall. Last seen with a pet rat who lived in his coat and drunk his beer (honestly). Here seen setting light to the student union building.

"I've been looking for him for several years now!" (Wilf) - so MAIL HIM! :-)

The proof!

It's Karl Benniworth again, this time more suprised.

The old HTV West logo. No idea why it's here.

James T. again.

Can't remember who this person was... (sorry, whoever you are)

"James someone" (Wilf)

"James Paull" (Kate)

"Jimma Jamma" (Andy)

Nick Coombes. Much to our general amusement, he became a quantity surveyor (you have to have watched all the series of Fry & Laurie to get the joke, I'm afraid). I think he's in Wales now, not that I think that should count against him, you understand :-)

It's Will Clark (William Clark - in full for search engines...). Yes, one of the Clark family of Street, Somerset (the shoe ones). Mad in a thoroughly nice way, like many of the Clarks (Hi James, John, and so on...)

Not sure - Girlfriend of Alex Fry.

"Louise" (Katrina)

Someone else and the above person. Didn't know the one on the right at all!

"Louise and Kate Litherland - kate was in Mark's business studies group" (Katrina)

Alex Fry (incidentally, he's the son of my old Computer teacher at Millfield). Now doing web stuff at JKD, he's emailable on alex@jkd.co.uk

Generally-suprised woman. Eh?

"Immy - Immogen Llewelyn" (Wilf)

"Was also a medic at Cardiff - she was in her 4th year when I started (2 years late because of A level hassles) and is now an SHO or reg. I don't know where she works but she did her house year in Penzance" (Kate)

Man who never wanted to leave college. Was there at least 3 years, maybe more. Nice, all the same, and he had a point.

"Spike (currently working in Bristol for the MOD)" (Andy)

"I (am) working on hush hush recruiting work for the Ministry of Defence in Bathno to mention my sterling work on behalf of HMG in South America - makes me sound rather exciting!" (Spike himself)

Katrina, girlfriend of Mark Nurse above. They might even still be together, who knows?

"Married Nursey last month in a Scottish Castle (so I hear...)" (Wilf, in November'96)

"Yep, got married in October 96 in a Castle in Scotland. Me and Steve Baker were the bestmen (yeah there was two of us). It was a good bash with Rob Kearle, Spike, Alan Dixon, Lizzy Holland, Julie Chapman, John Holden all present to witness the fine moment of matrimony between the Nurses and Mileys (although my last joke in the speech didn't go down well with Katrina's Dad)" (Andy)

No picture

"Lizzy Holland (now Clabon) is a teacher in Birmingham. She has a 4 year old son - Tom, and is currently expecting twins. Needless to say I think teaching is off the agenda for the moment!" (Katrina)

No picture

"Julie Chapman has had a varied 8 years spending time in America and Paris child minding, Exeter & Plymouth in Burger King, Manchester as an air hostess, and now in Portsmouth training to be a WREN and doing bloody well at it too!" (Katrina)

Anne Coward, my ex who I met at Strode and spent just over 5 years with, went to Bath University, met lots of interesting people then became a teacher after doing teacher training at BCHE (not sure if there's a connection there or not :-) ). After a couple of years teaching GCSEs and A-level Biology in the Salisbury area, where her houseparties became legendary in many circles, she's heading off to Devon to teach by the sea - possibly so she can throw the brats off cliffs if they misbehave, but don't quote me on that.

Helen Cudlipp: despite Andy Green's profound beliefs, Helen isn't living in a forest somewhere on Dorset. No, she's living in a sparsely-wooded area. Definitely. Today (25/3/99) Helen found this page and fell off her chair. Ok, maybe not, but she does claim to be in shock... after graduating from Cirencester and then passing her surveying exams, she's now working for Dorset County Council managing their farms (never far from a farm and a large manly horse, that woman ;) This one's called "Red"). She still keeps in touch with Alison Malcolm, and claims to have *almost* seen Antony Stagg a couple of Christmasses ago - almost as good as knowing someone who's brother used to be in the SAS...

I'm desparately trying to think of something embarassing to say about Helen, but the best I can come up with is the outfit she wore for one of the Strode fashion shows, which (I am reliably informed... as I wasn't there. Darn... ;) ) had a very interesting back view, which resulted in much applause from the audience ;)

...and that's it. Mail me!. Or, just go back to the main page
